Weddings at St. Luke's
If you have reached this page, you may be looking for a place to hold your wedding. St. Luke’s is a beautiful Episcopal church in the picturesque and historical town of St. Alban's, Vermont.
The Episcopal Church has a wonderful wedding liturgy taken from the Book of Common Prayer, the book used by all Anglican/Episcopal churches in the world.
Marriage is one of seven sacramental rites performed in the Episcopal Church. It is therefore important that a couple wishing to get married in the Church understand the significance of the sacrament and the level of commitment expected of them.
However, neither the bride or groom are required to be Episcopalians, although one must be baptized. If you wish, we can baptize either or both of you prior to the wedding.
You will work with the priest to decide on readings from the bible, hymns or other music, whether or not you want communion, or a brief sermon.
We will work with your florist, photographer, and either our or your musician(s) so that the service goes smoothly.
When you call, we will make an appointment for you both to meet together with Father David, who will talk with you about your wedding. You will be asked the same questions any other minister will ask about your relationship with each other, your church history, and your commitment to each other. Sometimes he may require one or several sessions of counseling. If you have been married before there may be a waiting period of 5 months to a year from the date of your separation or divorce.
We will give you a checklist of what you will need and information on how to obtain a marriage license prior to your wedding. You should allow plenty of time in case you have to obtain records from out of the area.
We love weddings at St.Luke’s and hope you will consider us if you do not have a church of your own or if you want to be married in a Christian service in beautiful Vermont.
